I found this poem or rather ode to motherhood on my good friends' blog. I thought it was sweet and accurate. I love being a mom to my two boys and especially loving on a newborn all over again.

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body..
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom ..

Dada Comparison

The first picture is Jared when he was a newborn and the second one is Kingston. We think they look so much alike. It is so fun to play the "who do they look like?" game. Alder looked just like my newborn baby pictures and has turned out looking a lot like me and my brother Houston, but people constantly comment on how Alder looks like Jared as well. I mean go figure....they are going to look like both of us after all, right? I mean that is the point. :)

So I am still pregnant and hugely so. Just a few weeks ago we were thinking that this baby may be a wonderful 8lbs and some ounces rather than the 9 lbs 8 oz Alder was, but its rather obvious that at this point the baby has exploded with growth. I am now officially uncomfortable. I am (without patting myself on the back) a champ at being pregnant, but its not enjoyable anymore. I am feeling sorry for myself now. Its just a waiting game now.
The above goodies really cheer me up. My sweet husband brings me them in the mornings sometimes. It really picks me up. And I am just loving these two boys before I go into a baby moon. They are just wonderful. I mean look at them...its so fun.

Recent Alder Videos

Alder is now just learning to walk but continues to crawl about 80% of the time. He loves water and especially the hose. This Elmo sprinkler he was not so sure about. Alder is also trying to talk. He just babbles away (you can hear it in the second video) and bless his heart you can see his frustration with not being able to tell us exactly what he is thinking. I am just enjoying this time though when those sweet little sounds come out and he is looking right at you as he "talks" (thinking that I understand) because once he starts talking all that babbling will be gone forever. The crawling I am tired of though! I am ready for this boy to walk. I am so pregnant now that its so hard to carry him all the time.

Yesterday Alder got to try out his new wellies for the first time. He had a ball. Alder just loved the dirty dirty water in all the ditches.

Family Faces

This picture may not mean much to most of you, but this captures Alder looking just like his Dada and his Uncle Jackson-I think. Jared and I looked at this picture and thought that the similarities were uncanny. I swear I have seen pictures of Jared and Jackson when they were this young that look just like the one above. Its so funny. Alder was sitting on this milking stool and eating "cookies" when we captured these shots. He was also signing "please," "more," and "thank you" all at the same time b/c I guess the cookies were soooo good all the while trying to balance himself on the stool. I thought it would be fun for all the Wingfield's to see. Happy Friday!

Easter Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend this past weekend celebrating Easter here with my family. They all arrived on Thursday afternoon and did not leave until Sunday. It was a glorious time to hang out and catch up especially with both of my brothers who we had not seen since Christmas. We enjoyed great fellowship gathered around fantastic meals and lots of down time. My Mom and I were able to get a lot accomplished in getting ready for baby number 2 who arrives in just 6-7 weeks. Alder received many goodies from the Easter Bunny (my parents) the whole weekend with the biggest being a Little Tikes climber. Its huge with two slides and little crawl spaces. He loves it. The play set will certainly help us this summer as I sit on the porch and nurse new baby and Alder can just play play play. Thank you again JoeJoe and KeeKee! Alder also received a tunnel which just makes him laugh so hard as he crawls through it and he fell in love with picking up eggs and putting them in his basket. He and KeeKee decorated the Easter tree together and Alder totally got the concept. It still sits on our dining room table and he points at it and smiles all throughout the day. Several times throughout the weekend we had wonderful devotionals at the table which really prepared our hearts for Sunday and the rejoicing over the Resurrection. We hope everyone had a joyous Easter and great time with family and friends.

The Pilgrimage

During the weekend of March 14th and 15th, our house was on the tour of homes for the Marengo Historical Society. The tour of homes occurs every two years and because we bought one of the oldest homes in Demopolis we were asked back in the summer if we would consider being on it. We naively said yes, thinking that all of our house remodel would be completed months before March and really, how big of a deal could it be??? Oh, were we wrong. Two days before the pilgrimage we had one cast iron tub in our guestroom and the other one upside down in our hallway. Needless to say the house all came together at the last minute. Over the weekend we had about 100 people come and tour the home. Most were from around here and others came from as far away as Michigan. Some people toured the home that had friends or family that had lived here so we got to hear stories of the house from long ago. It was a interesting experience. Now that the house is complete, I need to post before and after pictures. It is amazing the transformation.

The books come to life....

We took Alder out to the Hall's house a few weeks ago to show Alder all of their animals. They have turkeys, chickens, baby chicks, horses, a donkey, cows, dogs, cats, and on and on. Alder looked with amazement as he watched all of these animals and wanted to touch them. You could tell his brain was just firing off the connection between all the stories we read with these animals in them and seeing them for the first time in real life. He was fearless in "walking" (he is not walking yet by himself, he just likes to hold your finger and walk....ugghhh! I cannot believe I am almost 8 months pregnant and I am still carrying Alder) up to all the animals and wanted to feed them whatever he could find off the ground. The donkey was especially fun as he was so sweet and curious. It was a fun Saturday afternoon outing.

Cheerio Party

Alder is becoming such a little boy. He loves dirt and rocks. He loves digging and eating dead bugs and sticks. He also rather enjoys getting huge fist fulls of "snacks" and shoving it all into his mouth. Yesterday morning I let him sit on the floor and have a ball sticking his hand into the Cheerio box and eating to his hearts content while I cleaned up after breakfast. Today he turned 14 months. This is such a fun age.

A Snowy Sunday

Yesterday morning we woke up to a beautiful snowy Sunday. It snowed hard for most of the morning. It did not stick since it had been 70 degrees the day before. We laugh at this crazy Alabama weather. Hours later at about noon the sun came out and it looked as if a single snowflake had never fallen. It was a magical morning.

Dinner with Wingfield Boy Cousins

Jared and all of his brothers have all had boys. We are extremely curious to know what this one will be. If we have another boy that will make 7 Wingfield boy cousins. Can you imagine what it will be like in 5 years when they all get together?

The Chattanooga Aquarium

Last week we were in Chattanooga while Daddy was away on business. On Tuesday, Yaya took us to the aquarium. Alder loved seeing all the animals. Alder loved the whole experience and we cannot wait to go back and see the saltwater part on our next visit to Chattanooga.

Visit with Uncle Mikey

In late January, Jared's dearest friend Michael Love came down to visit us. We had a blast. I think I laughed the whole weekend. The two of them are hilarious together. I just sit and laugh listening to them. Michael is an amazing guy. He just recently moved back from living out west since graduating from high school and we are thrilled that he now lives so close. It was great to have Alder get to know him. Alder loved Uncle Mikey.

Nappin' Funnies

Alder recently is going through a spell of napping well and consistantly. Dare I say this out loud. Now that I have posted this, I bet tomorrow that will all change. It has been so good for him (as I knew he has always needed more daytime sleep than he would "give" himself). He must be growing. When we went for his 12 month check up he was 90 percentile for height and 25 percentile for weight. Alder is long and lean, seems to have a bottomless pit, and I swear grows 1/2 inch everyday. I caught him having just fallen asleep like this on Monday. He had his head up on the bumper pad causing his neck and upper back to be in an awkward arch and his arm/hand were stuck through the crib. I had to get the camera.

Happy Birthday Alderman Rhys

Alder turned one on the 17th of this month. We celebrated with friends and family with a brunch to rejoice over this boy's first year of life and his baptism on that Sunday. I will add more later, but the change that occurs from newborn to toddler is astonishing.

Happy Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!
